How ready are you for Saturday’s title fight?
Anderson: Very ready!
Travis: I’m in great shape. It’s going to be an exciting fight.
What do you have that your opponent lacks?
Travis: I don’t think I have any specific edge over Anderson—we’re completely different fighters. I’m a ground fighter and he’s a stand-up fighter. I think he’s the best striker in the world, but I’m pretty confident with my fighting style. I guess we’ll find out Saturday night.
Anderson: It’s not really a matter of what skills Travis lacks or vice versa—this fight is going to be all about strategy. It’s going to come down to whoever makes the first wrong move.
What is your opponent’s biggest weakness?
Anderson: I’m not sure. I haven’t fought him yet.
Travis: I don’t think Anderson has any flaws!
Travis, you dedicated your November 11 victory to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to support wounded U.S. servicemen. Have you made any trips over to Iraq?
Travis: No, I haven’t been fortunate enough to be involved in anything like that. But hopefully I will in the future.
Who would you want on your side in a fight—Ultimate Fighters or military men?
Travis: What kind of fight are we talking about?
Like an Anchorman-style parking lot rumble.
Travis: Ultimate fighters, for sure. In a war, I’d want someone on my side who knew strategy, so then I’d go with the soldiers. But in a parking lot brawl, I’m taking Anderson with me.
If you could step into the ring with any celebrity, who would you choose?
Travis: Mike Tyson. At one time he was considered the baddest man in the world, so if you can beat a guy carrying that title, you know it’s been a good day.
Anderson: I’d like to fight a clone of myself, just to see what it’s really like.
What is your prediction for this fight? How quickly do you think you can take out your opponent?
Anderson: I’m not really one for predictions but, like I said before, anything can happen in a fight. I really believe that it will all come down to whoever makes the first wrong move. He’ll be the one who wins this fight.
What’s the gnarliest injury you’ve ever suffered?
Travis: I broke a cheekbone in one of my fights. That wasn’t pleasant.
What’s the worst punishment you’ve ever doled out?
Travis: One time I knocked out Marvin Eastman—he was out for about five minutes. I felt pretty bad about that.
Do you have any pre-match rituals?
Travis: Normally I shave my arms and chest, but—I don’t know why—about five weeks before a fight, I’ll stop.
What kind of music do you listen to while training?
Anderson: Hip-hop, for sure, especially DMX and Dru Hill.
You’re both in awesome shape. Do you ever have a day when you skip the gym, park your ass on the couch and eat Doritos all day?
Travis: The day after a fight!
Anderson: Me too. But three days after a match, I’m back in the gym.
Who is your ideal UFC ring girl?
Anderson: Jennifer Lopez—or Beyonce.
Travis: Selma Hayek
Anderson: Yeah, I like her too. Good answer.
The UFC World Middleweight title match between Anderson Silva and Travis Lutter can be seen this Saturday night on Pay-Per-View.
